Pop Goes the Promise

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

The Bible’s promises are like Billboard’s Top 40 pop songs. Every time you read a Scripture, the Holy Spirit inspires you and something “pops” out at you. Jesus has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, and we can take that as a promise.

Throughout Scripture there are a few promises that really “pop.” The first is a promise of a Savior. “But I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me” (Hosea 13:4). Paul said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile” (Romans 1:16).

Next our Savior promises us forgiveness of sins. “This is my blood of the cov- enant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28). We can come ...
