The Bible has a few wonder women. Deborah the prophetess is one of the only women mentioned in the Bible as leading the people of Israel. What happened to the male- dominated society? The Israelites were in the heat of battle (what else is new?), and Barak asked Deborah to help him fight his battle. He told her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go” ( Judges 4:8).
Deborah’s response is classic: “Very well . . . I will go with you. But because of the way you are going about this, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will hand Sisera over to a woman” ( Judges 4:9). Go wonder woman!
