I wrote the poem below more than five years ago. It was read on a nationally known radio show, Revive Our Hearts with Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I hope you find your life today.
I have an addiction that has taken over my life. It’s turned my pure desires into fleshly, evil dark pleasures. I have this need to satisfy my wants and needs immediately — instant gratification. I have been overcome. I can’t take breaks or go away on vacation.
Looking this addiction straight in the eye has brought me to my knees — to the cross. But, what does it mean to take up my cross?
I crucify my flesh and all its desires and lay down on my cross of guilt and shame. I feel the nails being driven into my hands and the evil one driven out. Not I, but Christ lives in me — now I have the choice to live each day for Jesus
To say yes to Him and no to my addictions. Through my death ...
