If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will begiven you.
— John 15:7
What do we do when life deals us a devastating blow? Do we consider it pure joy?
No matter how big the trial, the test is developing our perseverance. Perseverancemust have its perfect work so that we will be complete, not lacking in anything (see James 1:4).
“But what if I don’t want it to have its perfect work?” you say. “What if I want everything to stay exactly the way it is?”
Jesus doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle — and if a trial is really disguised as a new beginning, then maybe the question isn’t “do you feel lucky (punk)?” but “whatcan I learn from this trial before he takes it away?”
