What’s Your Thing?

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
— Matthew 19:16
Jesus was the perfect teacher. He had students and followers who yearned for his knowledge. People came from surrounding cities to hear him speak. There was some- thing different about this man they called Teacher.
Matthew 19 says that a man came up to Jesus and asked him what he needed to do to get into heaven. Because Jesus knew his heart, he used the opportunity to teach his students along with this rich young man. He said, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me” (Matthew 19:21).
Could there be a reason Jesus asked this man to do the one thing he could not do? In the same way Jesus knows our hearts and what we are truly capable of. I wonder what your thing is? Mine is pride.
