Everyone is selfish. Being confident in who you are is not a bad thing. In fact, most of us would probably say that we are good people. But we shouldn’t judge ourselves based on how “good” or “selfish” we are. The real test of selfishness ends with ourselves and begins with focusing on others.
It is not a natural response to put others first. Instead of thinking of selflessness as a grand gesture, think of it this way: When work and school overwhelm and overload you, take a few minutes to make a phone call to a hurting friend. Stop by your parents’ house to give them a hug or tell them you love them. Maybe a younger sibling who looks up to you could benefit from playing a game or two.
