Jesus does not like pride. “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18, NLT).
I struggle with pride. Sometimes I want to be the lone ranger, who does things on my own, because — let’s face it — I work better alone. I get more work done that way. The only time I stop along the way is if I’m forced to surrender. Nobody likes to eat humble pie.
Thanks be to Jesus. He chose to lead the way and invite others into the process. In the Old Testament, God started by giving the Israelites the Law so they could detect if they were on course. The Law wasn’t meant to make them perfect but to help them succeed. In the New Testament, God the Father allowed Jesus to be born on this earth to show us our need for a Savior.
