Sheep Are Stupid

Sheep are notorious for wandering off. Whether they’re continuously jumping over a fence in a dream or searching for the perfect blade of grass to eat, sheep don’t stay still. People don’t stay still either. The Bible is full of illustrations that compare people to sheep.
Jesus gave us the greatest example of how to rely on him: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” ( John 10:11). Jesus protects us as a shepherd protects his sheep.
Like sheep we, too, are stupid sometimes. We need constant care from our enemies, and even from ourselves (see 1 Samuel 17:24). David was a master shepherd who became king of Israel. He wrote that Jesus is the one who helps us through our stupidity. “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture” (Psalm 100:3).
