The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!”

In Joshua 6:1, the Israelites were up against the fortified city of Jericho in battle. No one entered or left the city. Even though Jericho was much more powerful and had enormous walls to protect it, Israel inspired fear in whomever it pursued. The stories of the parting of the Red Sea were circulating through enemy camps as the Israelites walked toward their Promised Land.
God commanded the Israelites to march around Jericho once a day for six days (see Joshua 6:3). I’m sure Joshua and the people felt a little silly. No battle plan; just walking. They were also commanded to stay silent. No shouting! But on the last day they marched around Jericho seven times. “Have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in” ( Joshua 6:5).
