Tough situations produce two different kinds of reactions: fright or flight. I usually tend toward fear (fright) when I feel weary and burdened.
To prove it to you, I read through some of my journal entries from 1996. “Jesus, my thoughts are all grumbled; I think my spirit’s crumbled. I can’t seem to think straight because all that I can do is wait, wait, wait. . . .”
I don’t rest well. I will do everything I possibly can before giving up. I’ll fix the problem. I’ll push my burden on someone else. I’ll ask my family and all my best friends for support — and then when it’s the very last part of the day, when I’m so tired I’m about to fall asleep, then and only then will I give my problems to the Lord.
