Series: Faithbook of Jesus Devotional
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
— 1 Corinthians 10:13
Every day we are tempted in relationships, work, school, and finances. I could keep going, but you get the point. Once we take the bait and choose to believe that we’re missing out, we walk into a trap. The Enemy offers an enticing temptation, and we respond, “Yes, please!” To the topless woman in the hot tub or naked people on the computer screen, it’s easy to do what feels right in the moment.
The difference between temptation and trials should be our reaction. Paul said to flee temptation and stand up to trials (see 1 Corinthians 10:18; 1 Timothy 6:9-11). How can you stand up to a topless woman when she’s half naked? Run! (For a great Bible story on running from sin, check out the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife in Genesis 39.)
